Are You Satisfied with Your Choices?
ByBy Ann Yaggie, Certified Coach & Executive Consultant

As a professional coach I speak with a huge variety of individuals, and they each come with their own unique situation. A helpful tool I like to use to help them to gage the balance (or imbalance) of their lives is called a Personal Assessment Wheel.
By answering a single page of questions my clients are able to see exactly how they’ve been choosing to distribute their time and energy. The assessment is composed of nine categories:
- Career
- Fun and Recreation
- Money and Finances
- Physical Environment
- Personal Growth
- Health and Wellbeing
- Friends
- Family
- Significant Other
By answering five short questions about each of these categories, you are able to measure your level of satisfaction and range of expression in each area. At the end of the assessment, your areas of great success, along with the areas that are clearly deserving of improvement are revealed.
The Personal Assessment Wheel does not exist to place blame or suggest that you’re failing in a certain category. Instead, the assessment exists to reveal the way that you choose to allocate your time and efforts.
Perhaps your snapshot reveals that you are reasonably dissatisfied with your finances, but extremely happy with your career or your recreational life. This may be because you choose to value the type of work you do or the time you spend having fun more than financial security. Each individual’s results are different.

Remember that there is no “correct” balance. Instead, use this assessment to see how your choices have affected your current life and satisfaction with its many facets.
